If you and your group feel the merry mood during this Holiday season, throw this “extra” into your MoveSMART®session. Use the 8 Reindeer to represent some key safety ideas, and also reflect MoveSMART® principles.
Dasher: Makes us think of the old motto of the great basketball coach John Wooden, “Be quick, but never hurry.”
Dancer: Get in to the rhythm of your work. Be smooth, not jerky. Use momentum to move things more easily.
Prancer: Maintain good natural posture. Keep Your Crown, with your body centered.
Vixen: See safety as a positive focus in your work, not a negative drag. Become a cheerleader by encouraging everyone on the team to think safety and adopt MoveSMART® practices.
Comet: Comment (Yes, yes, we know this is a stretch, but give us a break, after all these are the Holidays.) with safety suggestions during individual discussions and team meetings.
Cupid: Work as a team for better safety. You don’t have to “love” one another to cooperate and support each other when it comes to safety. Just remember, we’re all in this together.
Donder: Be sure to don the proper PPE’s.
Blitzen: Put your whole body into a task. Blitz it with everything, not just hands, arms, or legs.
As long as we’re at it, why not throw in the bonus reindeer:
Rudolph: Light up the way for others. Pay attention to where you’re going and what you’re doing. As we say in one of our MoveSMART® programs: Attention is everything.
We’d bet that every time one of your group hears Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, they’ll remember at least of few of these safety connections. And reminders are good, no matter where they come from or how silly they seem.
These connections are ours. Come up with some of your own that are good fits for your work setting.
PS: It could be fun to have the group try to name the eight reindeer before you start the above routine.
PSPS: Don’t let anyone suck you into the endless debate about reindeer vs. caribou!
